Tax Identification Number inquiry

Hi, I am new to Upwork and would appreciate any help.

I am filling out the Tax info under my profile settings. The TIN needed (as on the screenshot) consists of numbers or alphanumeric. However, TFN (Tax File Number) in Australia is only for 9 digits numeric. How can I proceed with the form in order to complete it?

Another thing, since I am just starting out, is it advisable to get a GST or is ABN fine?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi Sheryl,

Thank you for reaching out. You may enter your TIN as the statement says "or alphanumeric" since this is the case for other countries. But if yours only contain numbers, that should be fine.

As for your second question, we don't provide tax advice so we recommend checking with a local tac advisor for proper guidance.

I just joined upwork and for the TIN I just put in my TFN too. So far you have had no issues when it came to ATO right?

Unless, ABN was a mandatory step too?
