Freelancer took payment without doing the work

I had a fixed price contract with a freelancer. Upon accepting the contract she immediateily submitted the contract for payment which I did not notice. She waited the 14 days and then Upwork released the money to her. No work was ever completed on the contract. I submitted a refund request but not sure where to go from here.

If the contract is not closed yet and if 30 days haven't elapsed since milestone was released, you can file a dispute seeking refund.

 

If you win, and you're likely to, the money will be collected from the freelancer's account even if she has withdrawn it. 

 

Check your mails and messages regularly after you file a dispute as both parties are supposed to respond to support messages within 3 days. 

 

Keep chat proofs ready to show that she hasn't delivered any work.

Hello Michael, this insight is from a freelancer perspective.  Reach out to upwork support, they will be able to get the money if the freelancer is still working on upwork

Upwork will contact you within 1 week 😌 and their mediator will help to agree on one decision after hearing from both of you, they will create group discussions as well you will notify those process via Upwork mediator

Go to Upwork team help option and mention them everything. They will must solve your issue before one week.
