Clients posting jobs and not hiring!! Hiring rate is only 2-3% after 100 jobs posting

I have checked a lot of clients accounts with these stats, They have posted a bunch of jobs and not hired a single freelancers to their job, Upwork should do something to control this and Also save the connects for the freelancers.

Please check above screenshot and this is not the single client account, I have seen a lot these days.

Hi Raman

Thank you for reaching out to us and bringing this to our attention. We would like to look into this further. Could you please click on my name and send me a PM with more information about the job posts you are referring to? I will be sure to look into your report and escalate it accordingly.

Is it really needed to post on the forum to make UW react to things that are hosted on UW's servers (for which you do take responsibility, as a company)? I reported hundreds posts, for many reasons including legal ones, yet they still happily sit there collecting money for UW. Any comment? I'm a bit tired of doing UW's job for free.

Yes, we need active visual actions from Upwork to cultivate a healthy work environment and safer space. It's not only good business sense, it's the ethical thing.

Imagine how bad the things people don't feel comfortable posting about here are.

Bro this is like a problem. I have 124$ in connects sitting in jobs like this. No user activity, tons of proposals, some purchase history.

Someone could be just farming their own bots by creating accounts as clients and paying themselves while farming our connects. This is the 3rd post in the last 2 days saying the same thing and I know for a fact I've seen it. Ya'll need to not only refund connects but be more proactive in this. 124$ in connects my dude. With the 10% taken by ya'll that's over 30% of my income gone just to upwork.

It's going to kill your users off becuase we can't afford to pay thousands into fake job posts while other people farm up accounts.

Sterling had a sterling insight. I get the fake client>>freelancer  feedback scam. H-I tried that myself but payed real freelancers! problem is, it only helped me as a client, which I rareley am.

I still vote for the FREE for FREELANCERS- make the CLIENT PAY higher rates and DUMP CONNECTS and silly badges. Bt that is the way I would run the company!!!!!

Although I don't quite under stand "farming" someone elses connects.

I'll piggyback on this thread.

I have definitely noticed a repeated pattern on "fake" job postings, competitors are farming our connects and it's becoming harder and harder to nail jobs.

They use very vague descriptions "Highly skilled.." and then fill it up with your GPT of choice.

These people are literally removing competition out of the way by farming connects from us.

I hope Upwork can figure this out! 🙏

The fact that Upwork makes money off connects makes it less likely they would do anything that would reduce spending on connects.

If Upwork really wanted to revamp the market place here are my suggestions:

  • The first step would be to close doors to new freelancers for a certain period of time..Lets be honest here, the number of freelancers here outnumber the job opportunities in every single field and niche. I don't see why Upwork still allows new users... I know this sounds selfish, but it's a hard decision that needs to be made
  • The next thing is to ensure clients verify their profiles before posting jobs. This doesn't guarantee a hire, but it shows at least the poster can actually pay and not just a rando playing around, which they still could be, but this verification before job posting at least shows Upwork cares about people that would be applying.
  • Upwork needs to monitor it's site more, most of these complaints about client not hiring could be that the clients secretly take freelancer off Upwork to hire, this could be to avoid the 10$ initiation fee and also freelancers might be suggesting to clients to message them off the site secretly as many people are planning to leave.
  • Then lastly reduce the contract initiation fee to mimumum or completely remove it, it's not necessary. Already clients hardly hire, that could make them begin to look elsewhere naturally which isn't very helpful.

I agree. For those non-hiring clients, the platform is a marketplace only in the sense of "I'll put up this advert, wait for reactions/bids, and then go off to where my real business takes place". But by not using the platform's full set of functionalities (escrow, feedback, messaging, dispute resolution,...) they are also doing without or waiving their right to legal protection. Obviously, those clients and the freelancers working for them have other systems in place.

So I say: Let them post, apply and hire off-platform to their heart's content! The only thing genuine clients and freelancers on this platform need to care about is transparency and adherence to the terms of service. Stop applying to those "job offers" and stop those posters from using the service for free (by removing ads or banning repeat offenders)!

I've heard out on the wild people coming to Upwork just to get a feeling of what something is worth to be able to rebate outside the platform to outsourced vendors. This is nuts.

I like Emmanuel's idea of closing freelancer posting, and I thought clients actually had to go through KYC. Integrating a KYC for EVERYONE ON THE PLATFORM would definitely reduce foul players.

Any solution please, frankly we are wasting out connects not investing them, and it's too much 😞

I'm looking for a new job since 7 months ago without success, this is the 1rst time that happens to me in 11 years on upwork.

Every job post means spending connects or profit for Casino Upwork so they will do nothing about it!

Same way they didnt did nothing about this client!
1014 jobs posted 30USD spent

Screenshot 2024-02-02 014558.png

Or this client!

33 job psted no hire

Screenshot 2024-01-30 051228.png

I have made over 100 Proposals in 2 months.

Average connects =12 = 1200 connects spent

1 "interveiw" that has now taken 7 days of my time. Still no contracts, and NOW the guy had dissappeared from the radar!  Big promisses of more work if we get along etc. etc.

I would be better off standing on the curb with a cardboard sign and a colection pot!

Same here and i havent got a single job since August last year. Lot of freelancers complaing and reporting that this is major problem,(except the ones that think they are businessmen, you can see them in every post defending Casino Upworkbut Casino Upwork doesnt care.
Here is freelancer that spend 200$ and didnt even got a single job.
Best way is not to apply to jobs i guess till this madness is going on and find some other ways to work

The ONLY reason I can afford to even play here is that I am retired. So my investment and SS pay the real bills.

These freelancer locations (ALL) have just sucked out the cash flow.

But I do it to keep the mind functioning. Otherwise I'd be on the couch!!

Yes but the question is how long can we play? We can pay 2-3, 7 etc times but if its all for nothing that pay to play doesnt make sense.
Spend money on connects and get nothing in return, its not sustainable strategy, neither for Upwork, neither for freelancers, and its just a matter of time till it colapse completly.

Yup - you might as well buy week old Lettuce when you shop!   day old milk is always good too!

And you know what???

Even the chickd ain't free like Dire Straits  said! (Money for Nothing)

I got same experience, 100 days of my time

Hi Marjan, yes its pretty ridiculous. There's been duplicate posts (more then 10) I had to flag but the posts keep coming. Then when I see the exact same issue discussed here, a Moderator jumps in says - yes that's not allowed, we are fixing it, etc --- Why are posts that break the rules allowed, and are repeatedly flagged, still getting posted by the same client over a 4 week period?

It doesnt matter if you flag it , 99% of the flaged jobs are not removed. Only jobs that are removed are the only one that are reported here, in community, because they are made public and yes, then  a Moderator jumps in says - yes that's not allowed and removes it right away.
But Upwork Moderators are very fast when they need to censor, erase or Edit post if someone is speaking truth. I give them 5 of 5 stars for that.

Yes its pretty riduclas, I've seen this issue repeatadly metioned here and the repsonses a lot of timeis, that's not aloud, we'll look into it.  How is it aloud to happen that a job post can have over 50 proposals, no hires, and then a dupilcat post appears within the next one or two days to do the exact same thing? I saw a duplicat posted more then 10 times and only 1 hire out of all of them, each post had over 50 propsals.

I'd love to know why we don't see effective active moderation of the actual platform. Surely that's an area worth investing in.

Yeah Bro, They are only posting jobs either for collecting Cover letters or they are switching clinets out of Upwork. I have seen these accounts are growing nowadays rapidly.

Almost a year now,and real question is:

If Upwork is responsible for its own platform, by allowing illegal activities on their platform like scam, fake jobs etc and charging, does that means that UW scams people for money by profiting from it?

If you do the math that client has a terrible hire rate vs postings.

I would NEVER apply to this client!

My rule is 1 job = 1 hire

But then many of these fools cant write a decent job post either.

Like talking to a call center!!!!!

Why would UW do something to remove such lucrative cow they can milk forever? Leaving such things open brings them more money and in this one thing UW is succesfull - milking people dry, using questionable techniques.

100% accurate.

Why would any company filter bad actors out as long as we (the suckers) buy the gold tennis shoes!

A sucker born every minute - but I am doing all I can to cal them out too.

I have a number of posts pointing out scam deals - and it should be a forum unto itself!

Real to the bone!

Accurate picture of Upwork, and the painful thing is that most people dont have any strong alternative to make money off this site, hence they are stuck getting milked. Its very sad and funny though what money can do. Its really like a casino, you have already lost so you cant leave, you still want to make all the losses worth it. lol. crazy
