Hiring a International Freelancer for US based Company

Hi there,

I have been looking through resources and am unable to find this yet: We have identified an international freelancer in the UK who we'd like to work with at our US based company. Here are my questions:

• We haven't identified a project/work for this person yet but want to make sure they're ready to go. Can we get them added to Upwork to essentiallly join a 'bench' for when work does become available?
• What is the onboarding time for an international freelancer?

You can ask them to sign up on Upwork. There would be some verification of ID etc. required. Usually it takes a day or two to verify the id. In some cases a video call verification is also done. But you can be assured that the freelancer will be able to start the work with in 2 working days.

As far as bench is considered, there is no option for it, neither is there any need for it. You can simply open the project when you have the requirements finalized and then simply invite the freelancer based on his user name. Really simple.

You can add them as freelancer profile in your Upwork agency or company profile so you can indentify as collaborative member or part of firm and for that your can encourage them to open profile on Upwork and setup their intro, profile, skills and other details too so you can hire them easily via invite on your project.

It will take 2-3 working day for verification, tax form, and bank detail edit.
