End Contract - Paid half of payment - Do I still get the refund of half of it?

I hired a freelancer and we agreed of 50$ for a fix prize job. But due to unexpected circumstances the freenlancer dont want to continue the job, so we agreed to end the contract and pay him half of the pyment because he still did submit the works for 50% progress. I just want to ask if I can still get the refund for the half of the payment? And if yes, it will be directly to my card? And how long it takes?
